MOB Acquire Roach from SJHL?s Bombers

Fort McMurray, AB (Sept. 3, 2016) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) have traded 1997-born forward Shawn Weber (Lloydminster, AB/SK) and future considerations to the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) for 1997-born defenceman Curits Roach (Saskatoon, SK).

In 50 games with the Bombers last season, the 6’1, 205 pound defenceman recorded 26 points (two goals, 24 assists) and 48 penalty minutes. Roach added 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 16 playoff games, playing a key role in the Bombers’ run to the SJHL’s Canalta Cup Final last season. 

“Curits is a puck moving defenceman that can play both ends of the rink,” said Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca. “He brings a lot of size, depth, and stability to our blue line.”

“As a coaching staff, we’re excited to welcome Curtis and believe his experience brings a lot of depth to our team,” added Keca.

Weber appeared in 106 games games with the MOB over two seasons, registering 32 points (18 goals, 14 assists) and 96 penalty minutes.

“Shawn was one of our leaders on and off the ice last season,” said Keca. “He was a tremendous ambassador for us in the community and someone that really helped our young guys learn the ropes of the AJHL last year.”
