The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are excited to announce the signing of 2004 born defenseman Van Sawlor.
The right shot blueliner is originally from Sydney, NS, where he spent the previous 2 seasons with the U18 AAA Sydney Rush. Last season, Sawlor produced 28 points (5 goals and 23 assists) in 31 regular season games while also scoring 3 points (1 goal and 2 assists) in 3 playoff games.
“We are very happy to be adding Van from the Sydney Rush for 22-23. He is a two-way defenseman with good offensive numbers. He is a tough defender that plays with an edge and makes things tough for opposing players in the defensive zone. One of Van’s best traits is the ability to slow the play down. He sees the ice extremely well, does a good job of drawing pressure in before moving pucks north.” Said Assistant Coach Justin Rose. “We think he has a ton of upside to his game and can be a very reliable two-way defenseman for us.”
