FORT McMURRAY, AB — The Fort McMurray Oil Barons have signed defenceman Damien Wiebe to a Letter of Intent for the 2026–27 Alberta Junior Hockey League season.
A 2008-born blueliner from La Crete, Alberta, Wiebe joins the Oil Barons following a strong season with the Sherwood Park Crusaders U18 AAA. Through 26 games, Wiebe totaled 25 points (6 goals, 19 assists), providing steady offence from the back end. He also saw action with the Oil Barons this season, appearing in four AJHL games and recording two assists.
“We are excited to add Damien to our organization. He plays a strong two-way game and is capable of contributing in all situations, with the ability to move the puck effectively and support the play at both ends of the ice. What stands out is his versatility and maturity in his game, which we believe will allow him to step in and make an impact early in his career. said Oil Barons Assistant General Manager Jesse Mattson. “We look forward to his development and the contributions he will bring to our blue line.”
Wiebe’s familiarity with the organization and ability to move the puck effectively add further depth to the Oil Barons’ defensive core.
The Oil Barons would like to welcome Damien and his family to Fort McMurray.
