Story Coming In:
The Oil Barons are putting the AJHL Showcase behind them. Shutout in both games against Grande Prairie and Calgary, the MOB saw their losing streak stretch to four games. After scoring nine goals in the opening weekend against Lloydminster, the Oil Barons only managed four goals in their last four games, all of them coming in first periods. However, despite the losing skid, Fort McMurray still find themselves in a playoff spot early on in the season. Vincent Filion continues to be a bright spot for the team having the fifth most saves in the AJHL, while posting a save percentage of .934. Danny Akkouche and Carter Schmidt are still averaging over a point a game, with Schmidt tied for the second most goals scored in the AJHL. If the Oil Barons can get some secondary scoring, they will be in good shape as they pursue the top of the AJHL North Division standings.
View From Devon:
Offence has also been hard to come by for the Xtreme. Devon managed only one goal in their last three games, the first career AJHL marker for defenceman Ryan Richardson. Coming off an 0-2 record at the showcase, the Xtreme will look to rebound as they try to reel in Bonnyville and Fort McMurray. Leading the charge for the new faces in the AJHL is former Oil Baron Dylan Bidyk. The Calgary product has put up six points in six games and is leaned on heavily in all situations. The Xtreme are also looking towards veterans Kai Billey and Mason Finley to provide offence for the team, while the return of goaltender Wilson Maxfield will provide a huge boost for Kelly Buchberger’s team.
