McKinstry Commits to SAIT

Fort McMurray, AB (August 4, 2017) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are excited to announce that Jackson McKinstry (Calgary, AB) has committed to attend and play for the SAIT Trojans of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), starting this season.

In 153 career games over three seasons with the Oil Barons, the 20-year-old McKinstry registered 24 goals and 36 assists for 60 points. Along with making regular contributions offensively, Jackson also played a big leadership role on younger, rebuilding Oil Barons teams the past two seasons.

“Jack (Jackson) is an exceptional individual both on and off the ice,” said Oil Barons Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca.  “As a coaching staff, Jack was one guy we could always count on. Whether that was putting the extra effort in at practice, helping our trainer Petey with tasks off the ice, or mentoring our younger players – he was always there to tow the line.”

“We’re extremely happy for him not only for the next step he’ll take in his hockey career, but also the step he’ll take in his studies off the ice,” added Keca.

McKinstry joins Brandon Ralph (Fort McMurray, AB) and Will Conley (Strathmore, AB) as Oil Barons from last year’s squad to commit to and play for a post-secondary institution.
