Stefan Wood Commits to SAIT

Fort McMurray, AB (August 10, 2017) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are excited to announce that Stefan Wood (St. Albert, AB) has committed to attend and play for the SAIT Trojans of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), starting this season.

Wood, 21, was acquired by the MOB on January 10, as part of an AJHL trade deadline deal with the Drumheller Dragons. During his time in the AJHL, Wood appeared in 61 games between the MOB, Dragons, and Lloydminster Bobcats registering five goals and 17 assists for 22 points.

“Woody is a guy that joined us at the deadline last year and really made a difference from day 1,” said Oil Barons Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca.  “He’s a big body defenceman that skates well and plays physical, but he’s also a tremendous leader on and off the ice.”

“Although he was only with us for a couple of months, his leadership qualities had a positive effect on our dressing room during the time he was here. We’re happy for him and wish him the best at SAIT,” added Keca.

Wood will join teammate Jackson McKinstry (Calgary, AB) at SAIT this season and becomes the fourth Oil Baron from last year’s team to commit to a post-secondary institution. This spring, the Oil Barons announced that Brandon Ralph (Fort McMurray, AB) has committed to the NAIT Oooks of the ACAC starting this season, while Will Conley (Strathmore, AB) has committed to the Holy Cross Crusaders (NCAA Divison 1) for the 2018/19 season.
