WATCH: Dragons edge Barons 3-2

FORT McMURRAY, AB (January 24, 2015) – The Drumheller Dragons put up one goal in each period, en route to a 3-2 win over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons (26-18-4).

The Dragons needed only three minutes to get on the board in the first, when Scott Ivey converted a pass from the slot to make it 1-0.

That score stuck until the second period, when Luc Lalor (St. Albert, AB) one-timed a pass from Adam Durkee (Nederland, CO) on an odd-man rush, tying the score 1-1.

But with just over two minutes left in the period, Clint Filbrandt's laser from the point found the back of the net, giving Drumheller a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Drumheller extended its lead just before the halfway mark of the third, when Dakota Zaharichuk converted on another powerplay to make the lead 3-1.

But the Barons smelled a comeback for the second straight night, as Durkee cut the lead to 3-2 with a powerplay marker of his own three minutes later.

But Jonny Hogue shut the door the rest of the way in the Dragons' net, giving Drumheller the 3-2 win.

Hogue stopped 37 shots for the win, while Zach Fortin (St. Jérome, PQ) made 38 stops in a tough luck loss.

The loss coupled with a Lloydminster win gives the Bobcats a four point cushion over the Barons for second place in the North, though the MOB still have a game in hand.

Up  next for the Barons, a three-game in three-day road trip next weekend, with stops in Spruce Grove (Friday), Sherwood Park (Saturday), and Drayton Valley (Sunday).
