The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are excited to announce the signing of defenseman Spencer Kunz for the 2023-2024 season.
Kunz, born in 2005, is originally from Beiseker, AB. He spent the previous season with Airdrie playing for the U18 AAA Bisons producing 21 points (8 goals and 13 assists) in 32 games. The defenseman also suited up in 9 games for the MOB last season as an affiliated player.
“We are very excited to be adding Spencer into our D core for next season. He has fantastic speed, is a powerful skater, and is rock solid on his feet. He led our group in fitness testing in training camp last fall, and commits himself not only on the ice, but off the ice as well. He was the leading scorer on his team as a defenseman this past season with 21 points. That speaks to his ability that he can put pressure on the opposition by being active in the play, but also has good offensive instincts, even strength and on the PP. On top of that he plays with an edge, is physical, and has a great stick.” Said Head Coach and General Manager Adam Manah. “We were able to utilize Spencer down the stretch as an affiliate and the experience he gained last year will help his game coming into camp this year. We are thrilled to have added a defenseman of his calibre to the back end.”
