Fort McMurray, AB (June 2, 2017) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons held the 2017 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Northern Alberta Athletic Association (NAAA) on Tuesday night at the Casman Centre. Following the meeting’s election results, the Oil Barons and NAAA are pleased to announce that David Fitzgerald will return as the organization’s president for a third consecutive season.
“I’d really like to thank our board of directors, staff, volunteers, billets and sponsors for their hard work and support,” said Fitzgerald. “It takes many people day in and day out to operate an organization and I truly appreciate the opportunity to continue to work with this fantastic team of people.”
Fitzgerald has served on the NAAA’s Board of Directors for seven years, but his ties with the organization date back much further where he was a stick boy for the team during its first season in the AJHL and later suited up as an affiliate player during the 1983-84 season.
“I’m truly honoured to have been part of the MOB organization over the years,” said Fitzgerald. “Having lived in Fort McMurray for over 40 years, I’ve been fortunate to see this community and team grow. Without the support of our community, our success as an organization would not be possible.”
In addition, the Oil Barons are also excited to announce that long time director Dave Britt will return as vice president. Dave’s tenure with the MOB organization dates back over more than two decades, while his knowledge and experience has had a big role in the day-to-day operations of the Oil Barons office and Casman Centre.
Kim Hennessey will serve as treasurer, marking the second time she’s served in this role. In addition, Kim will also continue her role as the team’s billet coordinator next season, a role that she has filled for several years.
Bruce Ferguson will serve as secretary to round out the organization’s executive for the coming year. Bruce is a long time resident of Fort McMurray and has also watched the community and MOB organization grow. Bruce has served as a board member on both the NAAA and Fort McMurray Minor Hockey Association’s Board of Directors. He’s also acted as a colour commentator during the Oil Barons radio broadcasts for several years.
