Fort McMurray, Alta. (Oct. 9, 2015) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons have partnered with NorthStar Ford Lincoln and Rogers Radio under an exciting new initiative known as “Goals for Groceries” in support of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank.
Each time the Oil Barons successfully overcome a shorthanded situation at the Casman Centre this season, NorthStar Ford Lincoln will donate $100 to a pool in support of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank. When the Oil Barons score a shorthanded goal at the Casman Centre, 75 per cent of the pool's total will be donated to the Wood Buffalo Food Bank and 25 per cent will be awarded to one lucky fan in attendance at the Casman Centre. The pool will then start over for every shorthanded situation and shorthanded goal scored by the Oil Barons, until the end of the regular season.
Rogers Radio will broadcast regular updates during its morning shows on Fort McMurray’s Rock 97.9 and Country 93.3, to update listeners on the pool's total and the amount of money that has been raised to date in support of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank.
“We're excited to partner with NorthStar Ford Lincoln and Rogers Radio in support of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank,” said Northern Alberta Athletic Association (NAAA) and Oil Barons President David Fitzgerald. “It's an innovative way for us to give back to the region of Wood Buffalo. Although we never want to be shorthanded, we're happy to help those in need in our region.”
Goals for Groceries will kick off tonight, when the Oil Barons take on the Drumheller Dragons at the Casman Centre. The puck drops at 8 p.m.
