Fort McMurray, Alta. (August 18, 2015) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are pleased to announce that Mike Brodeur (Calgary, Alta.) will serve as an assistant coach with the team this season. The 32-year old joined the Oil Barons as a goaltending and video coach last season.
“The Oil Barons are a well known and respected organization among Canada’s junior hockey ranks,” said Brodeur. “I’m excited to remain part of the team’s coaching staff this season.”
Brodeur’s AJHL experience dates back to the 2002-2003 season, where he played as a goaltender with the Camrose Kodiaks. He joined the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Moose Jaw Warriors for the 2003-2004 season. Brodeur went on to play professional hockey from 2004-2013, splitting time between the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and American Hockey League (AHL). In 2009, Brodeur made his NHL debut with the Ottawa Sentators.
“I’m extremely fortunate to have played in the NHL,” added Brodeur. “Without the support of coaches, family, and friends, I would not have played at the highest level. I’m excited to share my experience with current Oil Barons, to help them move on to the next level.”
“Mike’s a quality individual that has played in our league and at the highest level,” said Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca. “He lives in Fort McMurray and understands the history and culture of the Oil Barons. I’m excited to work with him this season.”
