Fort McMurray, AB (November 14, 2019) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons made a splash on Thursday, acquiring 2001-born defenceman Riley Bodnarchuk (Okotoks, AB) and 2000-born forward Colson Gengenbach (Edmonton, AB) from the Spruce Grove Saints.
In exchange, the Oil Barons have traded 2001-born defenceman Ryan Conroy (Chestermere, AB) and 2000-born forward Jonathan Assayag (Montreal, QC) to the Saints.
Bodnarchuk, 18, adds a 6’3 presence to the Oil Barons’ blue line. Since joining the Saints from the Calgary Mustangs this off season, Bodnarchuk has appeared in 19 games and has recorded two goals and seven assists for nine points.
Gengenbach, 19, brings significant Junior A experience to the Oil Barons’ line up, with this season already marking his third full season at the level. Since joining the Saints in an off season trade with the Camrose Kodiaks this summer, Gengenbach has appeared in 11 games and has recorded two goals and four assists for six points.
Conroy, 18, has appeared in 22 games with the Oil Barons this season and has registered four goals and five assists for nine points. Over 125 career AJHL games, he’s registered seven goals and 41 assists for 48 points. Last season, Conroy committed to the Yale Bulldogs, where he’s slated to attend and play next season.
Assayag,19, joined the Oil Barons at the beginning of this year’s training camp. In 20 games this season, he’s scored five goals and six assists for 11 points.
The Oil Barons would like to welcome Riley, Colson and their families to Fort McMurray and would like to wish Ryan and Jonathan the best in the future.
The Oil Barons return to home ice tomorrow when the Brooks Bandits make their lone visit to the Casman Centre this season. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at fortmcmurrayoilbarons.ca.
