The Fort McMurray Oil Barons have announced their new captain for the 2012-13 season: defenceman Brock Maschmeyer.
Barons head coach and general manager Gord Thibodeau made the announcement at the team's annual banquet Tuesday night.
“Each year at the banquet, it's been a tradition that we would name our captain for the following season, and in this case the coaching staff had some discussions over the past week and we just feel Brock exemplifies a lot of the same traits that Carson (Cooper) had,” said Thibodeau.
“We like his work ethic and the way he conducts himself on and off the ice. We think he's going to be a very good leader for this team and a great example for the players to follow.”
