Fort McMurray, AB — May 27, 2026 — The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are proud to announce that defenceman Cody Nordstrom has committed to the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings Men’s Hockey program in the ACAC for the upcoming season.
Nordstrom spent three seasons with the Oil Barons organization, becoming a key presence on the blue line with his physical style of play, leadership, and commitment to the team on and off the ice.
“I can not even explain how excited I am to go back home and play for the Vikings.” Said Nordstrom. “But with all that excitement, I couldn’t have done it alone my family, coaches, teammates, billets, friends, the barons organization, and the fans of Fort Mac have a huge part in this, I couldn’t have done it without them. Fort Mac gave me the best 3 years I could have asked for and will always have a special place in my heart.”
The assistant captain suited up in 107 regular season games with the Oil Barons during his junior career in Fort McMurray.
The Oil Barons organization would like to congratulate Cody and his family on this tremendous accomplishment and thank him for everything he contributed to the organization over the past three seasons.
The entire organization wishes Cody the best of luck with the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings and his future both on and off the ice.
