Barons beat Bonnyville 4-0, now 2-0 in exhibition

FORT McMURRAY, AB (August 23, 2014) — The Fort McMurray Oil Barons extended their pre-season unbeaten streak to 2 games on Saturday night with a 4-0 road win over the Bonnyville Pontiacs to complete an exhibiton home-and-home.

Austin Holmes (Calgary, AB) had two goals while Salvatore Scalise (Calgary, AB) chipped in with two assists and Adam Durkee (Nederland, CO) had a goal and an assist.

Goaltenders Zach Fortin (St. Jerome, PQ) and Jesse Gordichuk (Penticton, BC) split the shutout in net for the MOB.

A scoreless first period saw the Barons outshot 12-3, but it wasn't until the Barons' second power play of the night in the second period that the deadlock was finally broken, when Durkee tapped in a rebound from a Scalise shot for the eventual game-winning goal just over halfway through the game.

The Barons doubled that lead when Holmes chased down a loose puck for a breakaway and scored his first of the night in the second period.

In the third, the Barons converted on just their second shot of the frame when a Scalise point shot was tipped in by Holmes to make it 3-0.

A little over halfway through the third, another MOB power play led to another point shot goal, when Taylor Lileikis' (Calgary, AB) wrister found its way through a screen and into the net for a 4-0 Barons lead and eventual win.

The MOB will now prepare for next weekend's pre-season tournament in Okotoks, where the Barons will take on the Okotoks Oilers, Drumheller Dragons, and Brooks Bandits in the final three exhibition games before the home opener on Friday, September 5th.
