FORT McMURRAY, AB – (February 28, 2015) – Taylor Allan scored three times for the Lloydminster Bobcats, who finished the season with a weekend split, putting up a 4-2 win over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons (31-23-6).
The Bobcats hit the scoresheet first, just before the halfway mark in the opening 20, when Allan scored his first of the night, beating Zach Fortin (St. Jérome, PQ), who got the start for the second straight night.
The Bobcats struck again in the second, when Allan posted up at the top of the crease on the powerplay, and tipped home his second of the night.
Four minutes later, Shawn Weber (Lloydminster, AB) deflected home a Brett Doiron (St. Ann's, PEI) point shot, cutting the lead to 2-1.
But the Bobcats struck back three-and-a-half minutes later, when Kevin Darrar ripped home a shot from the slot, making it a 3-1 game.
But just over a minute later with the Barons on the man advantage, Trent Lofthouse (Surrey, BC) banged home his third goal in the last two games, making it a 3-2 deficit after 40.
Both teams combined for a penalty-free third period, which saw only goal come from the Bobcats, as Allan completed the hat trick with 7:24 to play, ending the Barons' bid for a comeback.
Fortin made 31 saves in the losing effort, while Green needed only 16 saves for the win.
With a Bonnyville win in Spruce Grove, the Barons fell down to fourth place, while the Bobcats clinched second.
The MOB will start a first-round series with the Sherwood Park Crusaders next week, with Game 1 and 2 on Thursday and Friday nights respectively.
