Thivierge named AJHL Defensive Player of the Week

Fort McMurray, AB (January 16, 2017) – Fort McMurray Oil Barons defenceman JC Thivierge (Welland, ON) has been named the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Defensive Player of the Week for January 9-15.  

Thivierge, 19, scored three goals and five points over the weekend and extended his point streak to six games and 10 points.

Thivierge had the game winning goal on Friday night, en route to a three point night which saw the MOB top the Calgary Mustangs 4-1. He followed up with a goal and an assist in a 5-4 OT win against the Calgary Canucks on Saturday night. The pair of wins helped extend the MOB's win streak to six games.

Thivierge currently sits tied for third in team scoring with 12 goals, 20 assists and 32 points on the year. He also becomes the thrid MOB player to receive AJHL Defensive Player of the Week honours this season. Goaltender Eric Szudor was named Defensive Player of the Week for opening weekend on September 16-18, while defenceman Curtis Roach received the same honours for October 10-16.
