Pontiacs pummel Oil Barons

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons were outgunned and outplayed by the Bonnyville Pontiacs Wednesday night, as the Pontiacs cruised to a 6-1 win in front of their home crowd Wednesday night.

The MOB were without their number one and number three scorers, as both Ryan Bloom and Kevin Miller sat out with the flu. Hayden Dawes, Luc Lalor and Zach Wittenburg also missed Wednesday's game with injuries.

Bonnyville came out flying in the first period, with Jackson Dudley getting the home team on the board at 2:22 of the opening frame. Lyke Mahura would put the Pontiacs up 2-0 at 7:07, but Jetlan Houcher cut down the lead and gave the Barons their lone goal with 7:29 remaining in the period, rifling the puck past Bonnyville goaltender Stephen Klein.

The Pontiacs opened the second with a powerplay and Spencer Foo would stuff one past Tanner Jaillet to restore the home team's two goal lead. The Pontiacs 4th goal came from Bobby McMann, who found the back of the net after a wraparound. Jaillet got pulled following the fourth goal with Jesse Gordichuk coming in goal in relief. The Pontiacs would get two more goals in the third, with Mahura and Shelby Kostyshen both lighting the lamp and 6-1 would be the final score in favour of Bonnyville.

With the loss, the Barons' record is now 40-9-3. The MOB's next games are in Grande Prairie against the Storm on Friday and Saturday night. Puck drop for both games is at 7:30 p.m.
