Oil Barons vs Eagles Game 1 Recap

The Oil Barons dropped the opening game of their Play In series, 5-0 at the hands of the Canmore Eagles. Logan Ziegler and Ethan Look each had a pair of goals, while Gage Stewart was stellar in Fort McMurray’s net stopping 52 shots.

Canmore opened the scoring early in the first period. A scramble in Fort McMurray’s crease saw the puck squirt out to Look at the right side of the net, and the Calgary product chipped home the opening goal of the postseason. Canmore doubled their lead before the end of the first period. Brody Mortensen found Ziegler in behind the defence. The forward’s initial shot was denied by Stewart, but Ziegler knocked the puck out of midair past the goaltender. The Eagles continued to pad their lead. Mortensen, while lying on his stomach, poked the puck ahead for Look, who went five hole on Stewart for his second of the game to make it 3-0 Canmore. The Eagles then made it 4-0 before the end of the second period. A backdoor feed from Rhett Dekowny, bounced off an Oil Barons’ stick and onto the pads of Stewart, before Ziegler poked home the rebound for his second goal of the night. Dekowny wrapped up the scoring in the third period. A point shot from Nolan Kazeil bounced off of traffic in front of Stewart and slid into the slot for the Swift Current product, who cashed in to make it 5-0 Canmore.

Game 2 of the series will take place March 8th at the Canmore Recreation Centre. Puck drop is at 7pm.
