Oil Barons Trade Franz to Olds, Acquire Steenbergen

Fort McMurray, Alta. (Oct. 29, 2015) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) have acquired 1996-born defenceman Jordan Steenbergen (Sylvan Lake, Alta.) from the Olds Grizzlys for 1996-born forward Logan Franz (Medicine Hat, Alta.) and future considerations.

Steenbergen spent time with the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League (WHL) over three seasons, recording three assists and 86 penalty minutes in 62 games. In 36 games with the Grizzlys last season, Steenbergen registered six points (two goals, four assists) and 98 penalty minutes. He has yet to play this season due to injury.

“Jordan is an experienced defenceman that has shown he can play in all situations,” said Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca. “He will add much needed depth to our defensive core.  His leadership both on the ice and in our dressing room will hopefully be invaluable.”

Franz joined the Oil Barons last season in a November 1 trade with the Calgary Canucks. In 55 games with the Oil Barons over two seasons, Franz registered 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) and 42 penalty minutes. The Oil Barons thank Logan for his contributions and wish him the best in the future.
