Oil Barons to host major Soup Kitchen fundraiser Friday night

FORT McMURRAY, AB (January 20, 2015) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League are challenging the Wood Buffalo community to help set a new record for funds raised to help the Fellowship Baptist Church Soup Kitchen at this Friday’s annual Frisbees for Food fundraiser.

Last year, the event helped bring in approximately $3,500 to help people in need in the community. Fans at the game are able to purchase frisbees in the lobby prior to the game, and are then invited to throw those frisbees onto the ice during the second intermission, with those fans landing theirs closest to centre ice winning fantastic prizes.

This year, the grand prize is return airfare for two to any of WestJet’s more than 100 worldwide destinations. The owner of the second-closest frisbee will win an iPad Mini, while the third-closest will also win a prize currently to be determined.

The Fellowship Baptist Church Soup Kitchen is celebrating 20 years of serving the Fort McMurray community; more information can be found on its Facebook page at http://fb.me/soupkit4thesoul or on its Twitter page @soupkit4thesoul.

The Oil Barons will be hosting the Okotoks Oilers on Friday night at 8 PM at the Casman Centre. Tickets are available at the Casman Centre Box Office, by phone at (780) 743-5509, or online at http://tickets.oilbarons.com.
