Story Coming In:
Fort McMurray extended their point streak to four games after snagging three of a possible four points from the Calgary Canucks. The MOB walked off with an 8-6 victory before falling to the reigning national champs 3-2 in overtime. Justin Dumais had a five point game on Saturday, Drew Freer, Jaxen Gauchier and Lucas McDonald all extended their point streaks to four games, while rookie Evan Benoit is also sporting a three game point streak. Now the Oil Barons prepared for the second half of their home stand with five straight games against North Division foes. So far, the Blue and Gold are 1-3-0 against teams in their division, having been outscored 10-14 in those contests. On the other side of the coin, Fort McMurray hasn’t lost a game in regulation on home ice. They are hoping that trend continues as they look to climb the division standings.
View From Grande Prairie:
The Storm enter the weekend sporting a three game winning streak. Over those three games, Grande Prairie outscored their opponents 15-4 with Colin Doherty leading the charge with six points during the winning streak. Max Algajer also had four assists in Saturday’s 5-2 win over Olds. What’s even more impressive is the Storm’s defensive play. Grande Prairie has given up the fewest goals in the AJHL. A big reason is their goaltender Leland Gill. The Brantford, Ontario product has a 3-0-0-1 record, a league low 1.47 goals against average and an AJHL best .952 save percentage. The Storm’s penalty kill has also been terrific, giving up only one goal on 24 chances, the best in the AJHL.
