Story Coming In:
The Oil Barons earned two of a possible four points to open up this four game road trip. Tuesday saw Drumheller score four 5-on-5 goals to beat the Barons 4-3, before Fort McMurray doubled up the Olds Grizzlys 6-3. Special teams have been a huge factor for the MOB on the road trip. Through two games, the power-play has gone 5-for-12 and the penalty kill has only given up one goal on 12 chances while converting two shorthanded markers. Ryan Arnold has led the charge for the MOB. The veteran forward scored his first career hat trick on Wednesday, and he has the second most goals in the league and the most shorthanded tallies. The Oil Barons also leaned on a pair of affiliated goaltenders for the first two games of the trip. Sergio Davidson and Kasey Fuson combined for 73 saves on 80 shots, with Fuson picking up his first career win.
View From Canmore & Calgary:
At times, it has been an up and down season for the Eagles. Despite sitting in second place in the South Division, Canmore is sitting just above .500 with a 9-6-1 record. Offence is the name of the game for the Bow Valley Bunch. The Eagles are third in the AJHL in goals scored, led by Cohen Daoust, who is second in the league in goals and points. Will Lutic and Aidan Tkachuk are also in the top ten in scoring, allowing the Eagles to load up a very dangerous top line. Goaltender Alex Scheiweiller hasn’t put up the eye popping numbers like we saw last season, however, he has made the most saves in the AJHL and is tied for the second most wins in the league. The Canucks are currently sitting atop the South Division. Since playing the Oil Barons in October, Calgary has gone 5-3-0, having not won or lost more than two games in a row. Goaltender Noah Nelson has been awesome for the Canucks. The former Oil Baron currently has the most wins, the best save percentage and the third best goals against average in the league. The Canucks have leaned more on defence this season, tied for the third fewest goals against. However, they do have a couple of productive goal scorers on their team with Grant Reid and Harper Lolacher both in the top ten in scoring.
