Story Coming In:
Fort McMurray wrapped up their nine game homestand posting a 6-1-2 record, after splitting the final weekend against the Whitecourt Wolverines. The Barons have one of the most lethal offences in the league, averaging 3.92 goals per game, good for fourth. Ryan Arnold and Justin Dumais lead the team in points with 15, while 14 players have five or more points on the season. Jaggar John and Ewan Gillis have been among the most productive rookies in the AJHL. Both first year players are in the top 15 of rookies points. Gillis has also scored the third most goals among all defenders in the AJHL. If there is one concern, it is the lack of shots Fort McMurray has put on opposing team’s goals. The MOB average the fewest shots on goal with 29.31, electing for quality over quantity.
View From Drumheller & Olds:
The Dragons have been in free fall. After starting the season as the league’s top team, Drumheller find themselves below .500, having lost six games in a row. One of the Dragons top players, Tyler Deakos, has been out of the lineup since October 14th. He has points in eight of the ten games he played in this season. Defence has also been a problem for Drumheller. The team is currently ranked 10th in terms of goals against, while the penalty kill is dead last at 69.2%. Olds has had problems finding traction this season. The Grizzlys are last in the league in points, goals for and goals against. That said, the boys from Central Alberta aren’t an easy opponent and have proven it with a win over Whitecourt and pushing Calgary to a shootout. Sam Giangualano leads the charge offensively for the Grizzlys, closely followed by Braedan Veldhuizen. However, injuries have hampered Olds, with Veldhuizen, Jordan Wales and Ryder Riedel all missing time recently.
