Story Coming In:
It may not have been the prettiest of games, but the Oil Barons are back in the win column after a 4-2 victory over the Devon Xtreme. Charles-Olivier Villeneuve continues his red hot play as he’s on an eight game point streak, with multi-point games in four of those contests. Ryan Arnold is also heating up for the MOB. With five points in his last three games, two of them including multi-goal efforts, the product of Spruce Grove is providing another layer of offence to Fort McMurray. One of the pleasant surprises of the Oil Barons recently has been the play of Griffin Gidney. The man from Calgary scored a highlight reel goal on Sunday, but also has four points in his last four games, giving the Blue and Gold some depth scoring. With players, like Gidney, finding ways to contribute, this allows the Oil Barons to attack in waves against their opposition.
View From Drumheller:
The Dragons are fighting to solidify themselves in the fourth and final playoff spot of the South Division. Sitting at 30 points, Drumheller has a seven point gap on Drayton Valley, despite the Thunder having two games in hand. They head into this week a little shorthanded. Four players are away at the World Junior A Challenge with Team Canada West, including leading point getter Ellis Mieyette and goaltender Sean Cootes. That said, they still have the services of Bradley Gallo, who leads the league in goals scored at 20 and is the fastest Dragon to reach the 20 goal mark in a single season. They enter the weekend looking to avenge a shutout loss on their teddy bear toss night, as they get set to play three games in three nights.
