Oil Barons acquire Sheldon from Mustangs

Fort McMurray, AB (Sept. 28, 2016) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) have acquired 1997-born forward Davis Sheldon (Nanton, AB) from the Calgary Mustangs for 1997-born defenceman Austin Cameron (Airdrie, AB).

Sheldon, 19, re-joins former teammates Will Conley and Shane Fraser. The trio were part of the Strathmore CFR Midget AAA Bisons team that won the Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL) and reached the Telus Cup during the 2014/15 season. In 51 games with the Mustangs last season, Sheldon recorded 27 points (18 goals, nine assists) and 38 penalty minutes, adding one goal and one assist in four games with the Mustangs this season.

“As a rookie in our league last season, Davis showed that he has the ability to score,” said Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca.  “As a coaching staff, we believe Davis adds depth to our team at the centre position,”  added Keca.

Cameron, 19, was acquired by the MOB in a January 8, 2016 trade with the Kindersley Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). In 22 career games with the MOB, the 6'1, 190 pound defenceman, registered three points (one goal, two assists) and 24 penalty minutes.

The Oil Barons thank Austin for his contributions on and off the ice and wish him the best in his future hockey and academic endeavours.
