The Fort McMurray Oil Barons would like to announce the hiring of Joey Bouchard as General Manager.
Bouchard has a wealth of experience in hockey as a Head Coach and General Manager. His AJHL experience began in 2012 with the Whitecourt Wolverines where the team saw a 49-point improvement from the prior year under the guidance of Bouchard. The Wolverines went 123-82-25 during his time at the helm from 2012-2016. He then pursued the opportunity to coach at the QMJHL level with the Shawinigan Cataractes during the 2016-17 season. Next, Bouchard decided to return to his home province of Alberta the following season as a family decision to join the Drayton Valley Thunder as GM for the 17-18 season.
“I would like to thank President David Fitzgerald and the hiring committee for the opportunity to join the Oil Barons” said new General Manager Joey Bouchard. “I am excited to establish long-term stability for the organization. With the rich history of success that the Oil Barons have had, my commitment is to reinstate a winning culture to Fort McMurray.”
After his time in Drayton Valley, Bouchard Head Coached Concordia University where in 2021-22 he was announced ACAC Men’s Hockey Coach of the Year. During this season, the team amassed a record of 11-3-2, setting a record for best win percentage (.688) in the program’s history.
“On behalf of the hiring committee, Joey was a person that stood out due to his extensive experience and knowledge. We are excited to have Joey join our team and work to return our program to the successful expectations that both we and our community have of our organization” said Team President David Fitzgerald.
Bouchard will join the existing coaching staff on the bench for the remaining games this season.
