LISTEN: Oilers beat Barons 5-1

OKOTOKS, AB (December 5, 2014) – The Okotoks Oilers scored five unanswered goals, giving the team a 5-1 comeback win over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons (17-13-3) last night.

It was the Barons that kicked off the scoring in the first period, when Jetlan Houcher (Paradise Valley, AB) wired a shot past Nic Renyard on a beautiful solo rush, making it 1-0 Fort McMurray.

But the Oilers tied things up before the period was out, when Trey Degraaf tipped home a point shot to make things 1-1.

From the start of the second onward, the Oilers took a commanding control.
Mitch Collett, Jordie Lawson, and Tanner Ockey all scored in the second period, while outshooting the Barons 17-4.

While the Barons improved in the third, it didn’t show on the scoreboard.
Phelan Shaw iced it for the Oilers with just over 2:30 to play, in a period that also saw a lopsided shot total, ending at 13-4 for Okotoks.

As well, former Oil Baron defenceman Cole Dunphy picked up two points against his former squad.

Brett Lewchuk (Saskatoon, SK) made 32 saves in a hard-fought loss for the Barons, while Renyard needed only 16 saves to pick up the win.

With the loss, the Barons stay in fourth place in the North Division, two points behind third-place Lloydminster, who have one game in hand over the MOB.

Up next, the MOB travel to Brooks to battle the Bandits on a Saturday night.
