Coach’s Blog – Weekend Split

The Oilbarons split the weekend losing 2-1 to Okotoks Friday before bouncing back with a strong 4-0 win Saturday over Canmore.

The Barons were lackluster Friday in losing to Okotoks. The Barons had the edge in shots 26-23 and scoring chances 11-9 but showed little emotion with a season low 16 hits. Justin Fraser (8th) scored the lone goal for the MOB. Newly appointed Captain Mike Marianchuk added an assist in his 200th career AJHL regular season game.

The MOB bounced back with a solid 4-0 win Saturday as Tanner Jaillet stopped 34 shots in collecting his first shut-out of the sesaon. Kevin Miller (1st) Matt Purmal (3rd) Mike Marianchuk (5th) and John Teets (4th) all found the twine in the victory. The shots favoured Canmore 34-33 and the Eagles out-chanced the Barons 12-10. The penalty kill was a large part of the win as the Barons killed 6 penalties on the night and are 20 for 21 over the last 8 games.
