Coach’s Blog -5 Point Road Trip

The Barons managed 5 out of 6 points on the road this weekend to jump to 2nd place in the AJHL North Division with 2 weeks remaining in the season.

The MOB started the trip with a 3-1 win in Whitecourt Friday, this was the 3rd straight win for the Barons in Whitecourt. Ethan Wood was stellar in net as the Barons were outshot 39-21, the scoring chances were 10-10. Adam Durkee (10th), Mike Marianchuk (10th) and Jetlan Houcher (8th) scored for the Barons. Mike Marianchuk's goal was his 8th game winning goal of his career and his 100th AJHL point.

The Barons travelled to Grande Prairie and blanked the Storm 3-0 with Tanner Jaillet collecting his 3rd shut out of the season. Hayden Dawes (9th) and Matt Purmal (4th) gave the team a 2-0 lead before Adam Durkee (11th) added a shorthanded goal. The MOB led in shots 24-22 and scoring chances 9-6.

The Barons fell 5-4 in overtime Sunday in Grande Prairie battling back from a 3-1 deficit to gain a point. Justin Fraser (11th) had 1 goal and 3 asists, Jetlan Houcher (9th/10th) had 2 goals and 1 assist, and Hayden Dawes (10th) added 1 goal and 1 assist. The Barons led in shots 28-25 and in scoring chances 16-11.

Justin Fraser and Mike Marianchuk lead the team with 14 road points. Hayden Dawes and Luc Lalor both have 13 points.

With 3 game remaining the Barons can still finish anywhere from 2nd place to 7th place in the the tight North Division.

The Barons are 10-2-2 since the trade deadline including 6-0-2 on the road.
