The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are proud to announce defenseman Chris Kobelka has committed to NCAA Division 1 program the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
“We are extremely happy for Chris and the Kobelka family. This is a tremendous accomplishment for Chris that he has worked very hard to achieve. Since we acquired him in MOB colors last January, he has been our most improved player in every aspect of the game. It speaks to his work ethic and dedication on and off the ice. He is 2nd on our team in scoring and has played big minutes against the opposition’s top lines. Alaska is adding not only a terrific player, but an outstanding person to their program for 2024-25.” – Head Coach and General Manager Adam Manah.
Kobelka, the 2003 born Calgary native is currently 8th in points amongst defenseman in the AJHL with 37 points (8 goals and 29 assists) in 48 games and is in his second season with the Oil Barons.
“I’m extremely honoured and excited to commit to such a high calibre team and program like the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I can’t thank my friends, teammates, billets, trainers, coaches, and especially my family for their undying support over the course of my career. I would not be where I am today without any of them.” Said Chris Kobelka. “As well I’d like to thank the entire Oil Barons organization and fanbase for all the support during my time so far in Fort McMurray. It’s a privilege to be a part of such an incredible community, and I look forward to continuing to wear the Barons logo until I head off to UAF.”
The Fort McMurray Oil Barons would like to congratulate Chris and his family on this accomplishment.
