Tyler King departs Oil Barons

FORT McMURRAY, AB (May 31, 2015) — The Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) today announced that Manager of Communications Tyler King will depart the organization and pursue a new opportunity, effective Monday.

King has served as the Oil Barons’ radio broadcaster for the past four seasons, calling 284 total games for the team, beginning in August of 2011 when the team played in Omsk, Russia at the first-ever Junior Club World Cup, and concluding this past May when the team narrowly missed out on a national championship berth as hosts of the 2015 Western Canada Cup.

Beginning in 2012, King was charged with control of home game operations, website maintenance, social media, and video work for the team, helping to craft one of Junior A’s most prominent video presences.

In September of 2014, he was appointed to the newly-created full-time position of Manager of Communications to consolidate those responsibilities into a single role.

“It has been an honour and a pleasure to serve Oil Barons fans for the past four years in my roles with the team,” said King. “I would like to express my deepest thanks to the season ticket holders, staff, and players who helped to make my time with the MOB so memorable.”

“While I look forward to what the future holds, I will always consider the Casman Centre to be a home rink.”

Earlier this year, King was voted as one of the top four best Junior A broadcasters in North America in an online contest run by video-streaming service FastHockey.com; he also served as lead broadcaster, as well as video, web, and game operations coordinator for all games of the 2015 Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup.

The Oil Barons organization would like to thank Tyler for his years of service and contributions to the team, and wish him the best in future.
