It may be the pre-season, but the Fort McMurray Oil Barons used a third period offensive push to beat the Bonnyville Pontiacs 6-2 on Wednesday night and open pre-season play at the Casman Centre.
After a scoreless first period between the MOB and Pontiacs, Ryan Conroy got the MOB on the board at 10:32 of the second period off a nice feed from Owen Reith. The MOB would hold a 1-0 lead heading to the dressing room after 40 minutes, before blowing the game wide open in the third period.
Within the opening 10 minutes of the 3rd, the MOB would go on to score four goals to snag a 5-0 lead by the midway point of the period. Will Conley, Shane Fraser, Noah Kallichuck and Garrik Ripley all found the back of the net for the MOB within that span.
Carson Erhardt would get the Pontiacs on the board at 12:13 of the third period, but Liam Izyk quickly responded for the MOB 1:46 later to make it 6-1. Izyk's goal was capped off by another nice feed from Owen Reith, who had three assists on the night.
Jacob Karran would add another for the Pontiacs late in the 3rd period to make it 6-2, but the comeback fell short as the MOB skated away with a 6-2 win.
Both teams are back at it on Friday night at the Casman Centre. The game will be the MOB's final of the pre-season, before opening up the regular season in Grande Prairie on September 16. Puck drop for Friday night's game is at 7:30, tickets are available online and at the Casman Centre box office.
