Fort McMurray, AB (September 13, 2017) – Hockey season is back Fort McMurray! To help kickoff the 2017/18 AJHL season, the Oil Barons invite everyone to stop by the Casman Centre for our home opening weekend on Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23 when the Lloydminster Bobcats pay a visit.
The Oil Barons have a number of opening night festivities planned for September 22, including:
- a pre-game tail gate party including a BBQ, bouncy castles, face painting, and live entertainment by local artist Dan Tulk at 5:30 p.m. (sponsored by Rogers Radio Fort McMurray and Sobey’s Thickwood), and
- opening ceremonies featuring special effects, videos, introductions, and a ceremonial puck drop before the game at 7:15 p.m. (puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.)
“Building off last year’s excitement and success, we’re excited to welcome everyone back to the Casman Centre for what will be another exciting season,” said Oil Barons President David Fitzgerald.
“Every year, we strive to create a fantastic opening night celebration featuring special effects and introudctions for our loyal fans. The players really feed off the excitement and buzz around town and in the building on opening night, so we encourage everyone to pack the Casman, get loud, and help them get off to a good start against the Bobcats,” added Fitzgerald.
To add to the excitement of home opening weekend, the Oil Barons invite everyone to stop by the 2018 Oil Barons Dream Home to take part in our grand opening event on Sunday, September 24. From 12 to 4 p.m., Oil Barons players will be at the dream home to sign autogaphs, take photos, and even play some road hockey. Oil Barons staff and board members will also be serving up a BBQ for everyone who stops by.
