Oil Barons sign reigning Northstars MVP Xavier

FORT McMURRAY, AB (June 26, 2014) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are pleased to announce that 1997-born forward Jordan Xavier (Calgary, AB) has signed an AJHL White Card Certificate with the team.

“As a young player, we’re proud to make him part of our organization,” said Oil Barons head coach and general manager Curtis Hunt. “Our head scout has relayed to me that he’s very skilled with the puck, and he’s got very good speed.”

Xavier is the reigning Most Valuable Player of the Calgary Northstars Midget AAA team, where he played his second season last year after debuting in 2012-2013 as a 15-year old.

He scored 9 goals and 6 assists in 34 games this past season after debuting with 4 goals and 10 assists in 32 games with the Northstars the year prior.

Prior to that, Xavier scored 28 goals and 19 assists in just 33 games played in his final year of Bantam AAA with the Calgary Northstar Sabres.

The 6’0”, 180 lb forward is expected to join the Oil Barons for their summer camp in St. Albert coming up in early July.

“From my perspective, we’re excited to get him into camp and see how his development has progressed,” added Hunt.
