The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are excited to announce the signing of Carter Schmidt for the 2023-2024 season.
Schmidt suited up in 49 games with the Merritt Centennials (BCHL) last season contributing 16 points (3 goals and 13 assists). The 2004 born forward is originally from Kelowna, BC.
“We are very happy to announce the signing of Carter. With the rules changing a bit this year and the BCHL disconnecting from Hockey Canada, it has opened up the doors to recruit players with BCHL experience. Carter was a target for us that fit that description we were looking for. He is a player that has 3 years of BCHL experience under his belt already and is a player that will fit in well with our forward group. “Said Head Coach and General Manager Adam Manah. “The biggest thing we saw in Carter is that he plays with hard skill. He can play fast, skilled, has a very sneaky shot where it is quick but also has a lot of zip behind it, and finishes checks. That was evident in his identity when we watched him. He is not afraid to play hard and that’s when pucks are on his stick more which allows him to use his IQ and vision to create scoring chances. He is a player that given an opportunity, will work extremely hard, utilize it, and have success.”
