FORT McMURRAY, AB — The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are pleased to announce the signing of defenceman Nathan Castonguay for the 2026-27 Alberta Junior Hockey League season.
The 2009 born Fort McMurray product joins the Oil Barons following a strong season with the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers U18 AAA program in the Alberta Elite Hockey League. Castonguay recorded 22 points (8 goals, 14 assists) in 35 games while establishing himself as a reliable two-way defenceman capable of making an impact in all three zones.
Castonguay also gained valuable junior experience during the 2025-26 season, making his Alberta Junior Hockey League debut with his hometown Oil Barons.
“Nathan brings a tough, hard-nosed presence to our blue line,” said Oil Barons Assistant General Manager Jesse Mattson. “He defends with authority, plays a physical brand of hockey, and makes it very difficult for opponents to spend time in his area of the ice. He is also a smart player who can contribute offensively when opportunities arise, using his awareness and decision-making to support the attack effectively. His competitive nature and willingness to play a demanding style in all zones are qualities we value, and we believe he will be a strong addition to our group.”
