The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are excited to announce the hiring of Matthew Dekker to be the Play-by-Play Announcer for the upcoming season.
Dekker, originally from Airdrie, Alberta, attended Mount Royal University from 2014-2016 where he studied Sport and Recreation Management. In 2019 he became a reporter and anchor with GX94 Radio in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, while attending Western Academy Broadcasting College. The following year Dekker began his broadcasting career with the Yorkton Terriors of the SJHL as the media coordinator and Play-by-Play Announcer.
“I am excited to join a terrific organization in the Oil Barons. I have heard nothing but awesome things about the team and city. I am looking forward to being in Fort McMurray to share this team’s story with the fans.” Said Dekker.
