Fort McMurray dropped their second game in a row to a North Division team, this time 4-2 at the hands of Bonnyville. Leo Adams had a pair of assists, Drew Freer had a goal and a helper, while Brendan Gee stopped 34 shots in the loss.
The Oil Barons found themselves behind the eight ball early on. 42 seconds in, Maxwell Pendy steered home a rebound and the road team led 1-0. The Pontiacs followed it up with a goal in the last minute of the first period. Gavin Harrison raced through the neutral zone and ripped a puck top corner to double Bonnyville’s lead. The visitors continued to add the pressure to the Oil Barons in the second period, aided by a couple of power-plays. Pendy feathered a puck in front, where Ben Costantino scored to make it 3-0. Fort McMurray wouldn’t go away quietly into the night. Suddenly, Adams and Cade Petersen found themselves on a 2-on-0 breakaway with Petersen slamming home his 10th goal of the season. Then early in the third period, the MOB cut Bonnyville’s lead to one. A point shot from Willem Terwoord was deflected by Freer, for the captain’s 15th goal of the campaign. Fort McMurray pressed for an equalizer, but Malcolm Baar scored an empty net goal, and the Pontiacs skated away with a huge two points on the road.
Fort McMurray continues their home stand with a visit by the South Division’s top team. The Canmore Eagles come to town to wrap up the season series. Puck drop on Saturday is at 7pm, Sunday’s game starts at 2pm.
