The Oil Barons snapped their three game losing streak with a gutsy 6-3 win over Bonnyville. Justin Dumais led the charge with two goals and a helper, Brendan Gee was terrific making 34 saves, while Dustin Good, Cole Brown and Carter Ellsworth each chipped in with a goal and an assist. Ryan Arnold also extended his point streak to 13 games, tying a season long in the AJHL.
Fort McMurray opened the scoring late in the first period. A pass found Brown in the slot, and the Langley, BC product snapped the puck off the post and in for his first goal as an Oil Baron. The scoring dried up until late in the second period. Ellsworth made it 2-0 for the MOB. A missed shot from Brown bounced off the back wall and Ellsworth slipped it home for his second goal of the year. Bonnyville got on the board before the end of the period. The puck sat in the slot for Christophe Lussier and the Quebec product made no mistake. Fort McMurray looked to make a statement early in the third period and they got just that. Justin Dumais sniped home his 11th goal of the year, going short side on Ryley Budd to make it 3-1 Fort McMurray. The veteran from Montreal then made it 4-1, after Drew Freer shovelled a pass, releasing Dumais on a shorthanded breakaway. The Pontiacs wouldn’t go away. Maxwell Pendy found the back of the net off a ricochet to make it 4-2. Then Deegan Kinniburgh deflected home a point shot to bring Bonnyville within one. However, a couple empty net goals later and Fort McMurray iced the game away. Dustin Good found the back of the net for his second goal of the season, then Good set up Ryan Arnold for an empty net tap in to extend Arnold’s point streak.
Fort McMurray will be back in action for a rescheduled game on Monday. They will battle the number one Whitecourt Wolverines at Centerfire Place. Puck drop is at 7pm.
