Story Coming In:
The Oil Barons are showing plenty of improvement over the last couple of weeks. Since a 10-3 loss at the hands of the Sherwood Park Crusaders, Fort McMurray has gone 2-2-0-2 with wins over top teams in Drumheller and Calgary, and good battles against Brooks and Sherwood Park. The additions of Noah Heinrich and Dylan Bidyk bolstered the Oil Barons’ back end bringing much needed experience, the team has received solid goaltending, while Keefe Gruener has stepped up to lead the team by example on offense. The only thing the Oil Barons would want to see is a resurgence from the quatro of Ryan and Evan Arnold, Carter Schmidt and Ethan Sundar. The four players have been very quiet on the scoresheet as of late and consistent production from them would increase the MOB’s chances of securing victories.
View From Calgary:
After back to back losses against Fort McMurray and Blackfalds, the Canucks bounced back into the win column by edging the Whitecourt Wolverines 2-1 on Monday. With plenty of rest and practice, Calgary heads north for three games in three nights against Fort McMurray and Sherwood Park. Julien Gervais leads the team offensively with 17 points, good for top 5 in the league, while Gavin Schmidt and Bowden Singleton are point a game players. Don’t sleep on 17-year-old Gavin Garland, as the University of Nebraska Omaha commit is a dangerous rookie every time he steps on the ice. The Canucks are a good team this season and they are looking to keep pace with the league’s elite, despite being on a difficult road trip.
