Story Coming In:
The Barons are coming off a weekend split at home against Drayton Valley. Some view this split as disappointing, as the Oil Barons never truly looked in sync. Depth scoring led the team to a 6-1 victory on Saturday. The MOB got goals from six different players, while Ryan Arnold and Cash Brebant had multi-assist games. Arnold continues to be on a tear for the Oil Barons. The veteran forward currently has a seven game point streak and is fourth in the league with 26 points. Special teams remain a strength for the team as well. The power-play is clicking at 27%, good for third. Meanwhile, Fort McMurray has the top penalty kill unit, adding the most shorthanded goals in the AJHL at five.
View From Devon:
The Xtreme are back home after a three game road trip. Devon opened the road trip with 8-4 and 4-3 wins over Bonnyville and Canmore, before being shutout by Camrose on Wednesday 2-0. Leading the way are forwards Ben Deacon and Lucas Knorr. Deacon is second among all rookies in the points, while Knorr has been lights out since returning from the BCHL, putting up 16 points in 11 games. Preston Lewis has also had a solid sophomore season. The Salmon Arm native has given his team a chance to win every night with his 3.28 goals against average and .902 save percentage. Devon has played the fewest number of games among any team in the AJHL. They will make up some of that, as they are in the middle of eight games in 11 days.
