Oil Barons Game Preview (March 14 vs Bobcats)

The Oil Barons come into the final game of the AJHL season fresh off a 3-2 win over Bonnyville. Justin Dumais extended his point streak to five games with a goal and a helper, Ryan Arnold also put up a goal and an assist, while Brendan Gee made 29 stops in the win. The Barons final test is against a heavy Lloydminster team, who has won four of five games against the MOB this season. The Oil Barons are looking to even their record against the North Division. Coming into tonight’s game, the MOB are 13-14-2 against their in division rivals. Fort McMurray saw two players nominated for league awards. Arnold is one of two representatives from the North for the Most Dedicated Player Award, while Gee is up for the Top Goalie award.

As the Bobcats get set for their playoff matchup against Grande Prairie, they have been gaining momentum heading to the end of the regular season. Eric Labrosse’s bunch has points in eight straight games, including a 2-1 victory last night over Bonnyville in a game that only featured 47 combined shots. The Bobcats have four players above 40 points with Jadon Iyogun leading the charge at 42. However, defence is the strength for Lloydminster. A team that only gives up 2.78 goals per game, second to Whitecourt. Lloydminster also has one player nominated for a league award. Jaxan Hopko is up for Top Defender of the Year. The local product is having a career season, tallying 12 goals and 39 points, more than doubling his career numbers from the last three seasons.
