Story Coming In:
It was a month of December to remember for the Oil Barons. Fort McMurray went 6-1-1, including capturing seven of a possible eight points on a Southern road trip. The results have placed the MOB in second overall in the league, just three points back of the Whitecourt Wolverines. Ryan Arnold continued his impressive point streak, extending it to 20 games. Justin Dumais led the charge offensively in the month, collecting 15 points, good enough to be named the AJHL Player of the Month. Now the Oil Barons tangle with a troublesome opponent. The MOB have lost three of four games against Devon this season. With a difficult month of January and having played the most games in the AJHL, it is important for Fort McMurray to capitalize at home against the Xtreme.
View From Devon:
The Xtreme dropped back to back games heading into the Christmas break. With home losses to Whitecourt and Bonnyville, Devon find themselves sitting nine points out of a playoff spot. Lucas Knorr continues to be the centerpiece of the Xtreme’s offence. The Edmonton product’s 37 points has him ranked in the top ten in league scoring. One player the Xtreme are missing is goaltender Preston Lewis. The Salmon Arm man was called up to the WHL’s Prince George Cougars, with Joshua Ravensbergen playing at the World Juniors. Backup Tyler Swanson has been admirable, but without their veteran goalie, Devon has gone 2-3-0.
