Story Coming In:
Despite a tremendous effort, the Oil Barons were shutout for a league high fourth time on Wednesday. Fort McMurray outshot the Pontiacs, but with some excellent goaltending and a couple goal posts, the MOB couldn’t find twine. Returning to Centerfire Place, the Oil Barons are sitting at .500 where they will face an opponent they haven’t seen since last season’s play-in qualifier. Fort McMurray has averaged the second fewest goals for, while the power-play is ranked 11th out of 12 AJHL clubs. Bright spots for the MOB has been the play of rookie Leo Adams, while Vincent Filion has been the team’s backbone in goal. Dustin Good has also been a fine addition with the Ontario product averaging close to a point a game.
View From Canmore:
The South Division leaders have been near perfect on the road this season. Boasting a record of 4-0-1, the Eagles have brought down some excellent opponents along the way, including Grande Prairie, Calgary and Whitecourt. Zach Coutu is leading the team in points while being in the top three of AJHL scorers, however the strength of this team is in its goaltending and defence. Canmore has given up 2.36 goals a game, second in the AJHL, with rookie goaltender Hudson Sedo leading the league in goals against average and save percentage, while also possessing a 5-0 record. If there’s one area of improvement the Eagles are looking for, it’s their power-play which is ranked 10th in the AJHL.
