Oil Barons Game Preview (Feb 15 vs Pontiacs)

Story Coming In:

After going winless in three games on the road, the Oil Barons return home for a crucial showdown against the Pontiacs. The MOB are 11-10-1 at Centerfire Place, winning four of their last five contests there, and in the season series against Bonnyville where the home team has won every game, that could be huge. Fort McMurray is looking for offence, as they only managed two goals in each of their last three losses. Danny Akkouche continues to lead the team in all offensive categories, Carter Schmidt is four points away from 100 in his career, while Spencer Kunz scored his first career AJHL goal on Tuesday, the final player on the roster to do so. The Oil Barons are also looking to play better defensively, as they have given up four or more goals in each of their last four games.

View From Bonnyville:

The Pontiacs rollercoaster season continues as they try to catch the Oil Barons. With three games in hand, Bonnyville remains nine points back of Fort McMurray for the final playoff spot. The Pontiacs longest winning streak is two games, which has only happened once this season. Bonnyville has won two of their last four games. With victories over Grande Prairie and Camrose, they can defeat some of the top teams in the league, but the struggle with consistency has caught up to them plenty of times this season. Porter Byrd-Leitner has been tremendous for Bonnyville. The Colgate commit now leads the team in points, including five in his last two games. Myles Gauld also remains a constant threat, whenever he steps onto the ice. His three game point streak shows that he provides a much needed veteran presence on this young Pontiacs team.
