Oil Barons Game Preview (Dec 8 vs Xtreme)

Story Coming In:

The Oil Barons saw their point streak come to end on Friday. Fort McMurray fell to Calgary 3-1, despite outshooting the Canucks 44-33. Vincent Filion made 30 saves in the loss, while Charles-Olivier Villeneuve scored the teddy bear toss goal, extending his point streak to seven games. The MOB have been playing some of their best hockey as of late. Fort McMurray is 4-2-1 in their last seven games, outshot their opponents in all but two of those games, while creating a six point gap between themselves and the Bonnyville Pontiacs for a playoff spot. With five games remaining before the Christmas break, the Oil Barons know this stretch of games could be crucial in their hunt for a return to the AJHL postseason.

View From Devon:

Since shutting out the Oil Barons on October 5th, the Xtreme only managed one victory. Devon currently has a ten game losing streak at home, with the last win at GFL Twin Arena on September 20th. The roster continues to change for the new faces in the AJHL as well. Yesterday, Devon sent former Oil Baron Dylan Bidyk and goaltender Wilson Maxfield to the Camrose Kodiaks in exchange for defender Michael Gallant. With the move, Devon will lean on the goaltending tandem of Preston Lewis and recently acquired Logan Cunningham. Lewis has made the second most saves in the AJHL, just behind Vincent Filion. Rookie Levy Kozma leads the team in points with 17, while Malcolm Baar has 12 goals on the season, leading all rookies in the league.
