Oil Barons Game Preview (Dec 19 at Dragons & Dec 20 at Grizzlys)

Story Coming In:

Two games into the final road trip of 2025 and its two wins for the Oil Barons. The MOB played a stellar lockdown game against the Canucks, before the offence led them to a victory over Canmore. Ryan Arnold has had four points on this road trip, Justin Dumais has three, including getting his 100th career point, while Dustin Good also has three points on the trip. Brendan Gee has also been terrific, picking up win #8 on the season and being among the league leaders in major goaltending categories. With the wins, Fort McMurray now sits in second place in the North Division, two points ahead of the red-hot Grande Prairie Storm. The Oil Barons would love to build some more separation before the break, as they have played two more games than the Storm.

View From Drumheller & Olds:

Drumheller has been a very Jekyll and Hyde team this season. The Dragons started the year as winners of six of their first nine games. They have also put up losing streaks of five and six games, and lately they have been playing .500 hockey. Having played the most games in the South Division, Drumheller is sitting in third place, three points out of first but seven points from slipping out of a playoff spot. The ever dangerous Bradley Gallo continues to lead the charge for the Dragons. His 17 goals is tied for fifth among all shooters in the AJHL. Drumheller also returns Brayden Ryan-Mackay and Sullivan Humeniuk from the Junior A World Challenge. Both rookies look to have a continued impact on their team. For the Grizzlys, it’s been a battle to get out of the South Division basement. Olds sits eight points out of a playoff spot, however, they have dropped four games in a row, being outscored 17-9 in that stretch. Olds’ top goal scorer, Sam Giangualano left for the BCHL, leaving Sean Richards as the top producer on offence. Goaltender Connor Johnson has had a quietly solid season for the Grizzlys. The Calgary product has recorded the most saves in the AJHL and sports a save percentage of .904, good for 10th in the league.
