Oil Barons Game Preview (Dec 12 & 13 vs Kodiaks)

Story Coming In:

For the first time this season, Fort McMurray won a game that went to extra time. In the ultra tight North Division standings, it was a massive victory for the Oil Barons over the top ranked Whitecourt Wolverines. Ethan Makokis had one of his best games with the MOB, tallying a goal and a helper, Dustin Good posted a goal and nabbed the game winner in a shootout, while Ryan Arnold extended his point streak to 14 games. Justin Dumais received league recognition. The forward from Montreal was named Player of the Week, after a hat-trick against Bonnyville last week and two assists on Monday. Last year in the season series between Fort McMurray and Camrose, the road team won every game. Both wins for the Oil Barons against Camrose were of the comeback variety. Fort McMurray is also looking for their first Teddy Bear Toss game win since the 2021/22 season.

View From Camrose:

The Kodiaks are also in a wild playoff race in the South Division. Sitting with 29 points, Camrose is in second place, two points back of the Calgary Canucks. Like every team in the South, inconsistency has plagued the Kodiaks. Camrose has scored 105 goals, the second most in the AJHL, but they have given up 107 goals, also the second most in the league. A top ranked power-play and a four headed monster in Liam Payne, Tucker Tullikopf, Junshi Hideshima and Bowen Grycan lead the offence. Camrose is also hoping the return of Carter Capton in goal helps solidify their defence. The Kodiaks had their struggles against the North Division this season, sporting a 3-6-1 record. The last win against the North for Camrose was on November 19th, a 2-0 victory over Devon.
