A pair of third period goals from Adam Durkee helped the Fort McMurray Oil Barons double up on the Spruce Grove Saints Friday night, with the MOB winning the opening game of the AJHL North Division final 4-2.
Parker MacKay got the Saints on the board at 6:22 of the opening frame a with a powerplay goal, but a little more than three minutes later Adam Wilcox would respond with a powerplay goal with for the Oil Barons to tie the game at one. The two teams would also exchange goals in the second period, with Kaiden Tobin scoring a man advantage marker for the MOB and Jarid Hauptman finding the back of the net for the Saints.
The MOB finally took advantage in the third period, with Kevin Miller feeding Durkee for the go-ahead goal at 1:37 of the third. Durkee also got an empty netter with eight seconds to go to seal the win for the Barons.
Tanner Jaillet made 26 saves for the Oil Barons in the win. Game two is set for 7 p.m. Saturday in Spruce Grove.
